(THE STAR) - Many people detest the Mat Rempit because of crimes associated with this group of bikers, and people are now incensed as they are getting more brazen. Just last Thursday, some 20 Mat Rempit surrounded Kattryn Eng’s 23-year-old daughter, who is deaf and mute, at a petrol kiosk in Subang Jaya at 7am.
They slapped and kicked her daughter before running off with her bag, in the presence of other patrons and attendants.
“My daughter could not even call for help. I am really devastated that such an incident could happen. When my husband brought my daughter to the police station, there were two other parties making similar reports,” said Eng, 57, a travel agent. (Read Eng’s account in the letters page – N30.)
She considers the Mat Rempit a “dangerous nuisance” and insisted that police act before this group became even more daring.
Student T. Selvesvaran, 21, encountered a group of 20 Mat Rempit in Shah Alam six months ago.
“I was sending my friend home. While we were talking in the car, a man on a bike rode past. We thought nothing of it until a few minutes later, when he returned and shouted at me kau keluar sekarang! kalau tak, kau tengok! (come out now or else),” said Selvesvaran.
He immediately started his car to drive away and while doing so, grew alarmed as some 20 motorcyclists joined the man.
They began to hurl rocks as they chased after him.
Selvesvaran drove away as fast as he could and was thankful the Mat Rempit stopped giving chase after a while.
He did not report the matter to the police because he was fearful of retaliation by the group.
Business development executive Daniel Tan, 28, no longer parks by the roadside after encountering a group of menacing Mat Rempit two years ago.
“I parked my car at Old Klang Road early in the morning and got out for some fresh air after a night out with friends.
“A group of six men then approached the car. I thought they wanted to help me, but instead they attacked me without warning.”
One of them hit him on the head with a helmet while the rest started kicking him once he fell.
He added that the Mat Rempit even attempted to steal his car but failed when one of his friends, who was asleep in the car, woke up and fought back.
Tan quickly got into the car and drove away. The motorcyclists chased them for a while before giving up.
Tan needed seven stitches on the head. However, he did not lodge a police report because he doubted the police could do much.
Other recent cases of Mat Rempit attacks include the assault on a Filipina in Kelana Jaya by 15 rogue bikers and another in Kuala Lumpur where at least 40 of them attacked a housewife and her son.

Guys,
I saw this article in Malaysia Today website (mt.m2day.org) which is famous for having Raja Petra Kamarudin as its main blogger.
I am not shocked to see news report involving Mat Rempit ( I prefer called them CELAKA) in our beloved land. We all know they had been ruling the road with their kapcai motorcycle since 70's smthing. What make me shocked to hell is the way they attacking and innoncent OKU just for her handbag. Imagine 30+ bastards, with their old, kapcai motorcycle, circling a young girl which is deaf and mute, they slapped her before snatching her handbag. Tell me, should not I called them BASTARDS ?
They are getting way more dangerous nowadays. Even I will be alerted every time a gang of motor stopped nearby my tuition center at Taman Cemara. They way they rode on the road, show us their brainless activity. They just loitering and wandering around, "usik" some other Bohsia, and doing all those stupid stunts which they think cool.
It really amazed most of the Malaysians if not all, we still unable take serious action against them. Try asking the new cabinet, who will dare to say Malaysians are living in terror at night with those devils racing on the road in almost all across the nation. They snatch, they rape, they assault anything or anyone who try to block them from doing their STUPID hobby.
Just a week ago, a group of those rascals snatch a handphone from an ex-Sin Min guy which is in the same batch with us but do not want his name to be identified for safety reasons. Then, the night after the first incident, a Chinese lady about 2 or 3 years older than me, was assaulted by those Mat Rempit just few metres in front of my shop. Luckily, a few young man and I quickly threw stones and shouted them to leave the girl alone. The poor lady does not lost her belonging, but still in shocked to be assaulted that way. She kept on crying. Imagine this happen to our mother, sister, friends, wife or daughters.
It simply amaze me to know that "Mat Rempit" is put under "Malaysian Culture" in Wikipedia. This is a BIG slap on every Malaysian. I do not know since when the article is posted up there, but I think we should put a full stop at this humilation. This will severely hurt others impressions on us. I do believe, like many other Malaysians, goverment should take action against them and stop them from menacing on the road again.
What is the main culprit behind these problem? Frankly speaking, I think this is all about the teachings in home. Poverty is not a reason, as this endemic even spread to some Dato's children. Many of them do not been teached or received a correct childhood education and proper love since they were young. They start with doing "wheelie" on their bicycle, lepak, and smoking cigarettes even in primary school. Even when their parents or others older siblings saw these act, they do not give them a stern warning and correct them fast. Some of them even praise thosebrave but damn stupid "daredevils" for those acts. And that makes them changed into more violent Mat Rempit. Menacing every road, haunting every man, they are acting like the goverment are building the road for them to race every early morning. Is this the Malaysia we proud for?
I am just 17, I do not spend time long enough to know exactly why this happen, but I do spend enough time long enough to know this should stop. The police should have doing more operation to bust them and send them to face the justice in court. The police may joint force with army unit as this problem are getting worse every day. We must not wait no longer. They do not show any respect to us, to the Police, to the justice. The parliament must make an act against these young Malaysians.
Now, let me make a very honest declaration: I have ZERO tolerance for Mat Rempit (a capital ‘zero’) That’s how I feel whenever the subject of these illegal motorcycle racers (colloquially known as Mat Rempit) is brought up.
If they were lined up to face the firing squad, I don’t mind to volunteer to pull the trigger. To me, these people are a criminal of sort. They are parasites. Their idea of fun is having pleasure on public roads and they have no qualms if others are killed as a result of their having fun.
Tolerate no more. Fed up with all their menace. It just amaze me once again to see this
Khairy Jamaluddin and Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim from Putera UMNO attempt to rebrand "Mat Rempits" as "Mat Cemerlang". The suggestion by Khairy that "Mat Rempits" should become the "Eyes and Ears" for the Malaysian Police Force.
Isn't it amazing to know a politicians who you are voting ( I do not vote for him ) to say this in the public? I am speechless.
Hope for better Malaysia every time woke up from sleep.
