Another snatch victim dead

JOHOR BARU: The killers on motorcycles have done it again — this time, snatch thieves took two lives when they tried to rob pregnant Jamilah Selamat.

Jamilah, 31, suffered severe head injuries after falling from her motorcycle on Sunday. She died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital at 7.30am yesterday without regaining consciousness.

Her husband of seven months, trader Razali Ahmad, 41, was a distraught man yesterday.

For him, the tragedy was harder to take because he had just started to taste happiness again after five years when his first wife died of cancer.

The tragedy also leaves Jamilah’s two children from her first marriage — Norasyikin Salleh, seven, and Mohd Khairi Ridwan Salleh, five — without their mother. They looked dazed and clung to their crying stepfather.

Razali said he was told by an eyewitness — his older brother’s friend — that his wife had hit the pavement face first and did not move after that.

“The witness told me that he saw two men on a motorcycle flee the scene immediately after Jamilah fell, and her bag was nowhere to be seen,” he told reporters at the hospital mortuary yesterday.

Razali said Jamilah, a handicraft dealer, was on her way home to Taman Mekar after work that day.

Jamilah had lost her handbag to snatch thieves last year but escaped unharmed. A friend advised her to twirl the handbag around the rearview mirror for a tighter hold.

That move may have been fatal.

When the snatch thieves grabbed Jamilah’s bag, they pulled her motorcycle, causing Jamilah to fall.

“I never thought that I would lose her this way. We were expecting our child, we have only been married for seven months ... I lost my first wife to bone cancer and now, I have lost Jamilah and baby,” he said.

Razali has two teenage children from his previous marriage.

Jamilah and the unborn child were buried at the Ayer Hitam cemetery yesterday.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ibrahim Arif confirmed police received a report on the incident.

Eyewitnesses are urged to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999.

In 2004, a Nanyang Siang Pau clerk, Chong Fee Cheng, 37, died after she lapsed into a coma following a snatch theft in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru.

In December last year, snatch theft victim Lim See Nya, 58, was run over by a three-tonne truck when she lost her balance and fell onto the road, after a motorcycle pillion rider grabbed her handbag in Bukit Mertajam.

I am speechless once again to see this on this morning. Why must this innoncent, poor lady become a victim to those monster? What is wrong with the society?

I read one article written by Raja Petra Kamaruddin again last night where he state that Malaysia is not just a failed state, but a failed society as well. Look how some Malaysian treat those stray dogs and cats? Aren't the cats or dogs are creation of god, living things just like us? Who are us to punish and torture them just because they were straying in our neighbourhood?

Things get really scary nowadays. Rape, snatch, murder occurs throughout Malaysia daily. Is this the nation that wanted to achieve the Vision 2020? One of my my friend had repeatedly told me that he and his family had been living in terror every day as there is many break-in occurs in his taman. The scary part is, the theft bring along parang which will be used to hack and slash anyone to stop him.

I still remember when I was a young boy some years ago, I always been told Malaysia is a safe country with a relatively-low criminal rate. I used to believe in that, but now? I do not even dare to let my sister went out of my house alone.

Back to the snatch incident, I read an article in Sin Chew Daily how to protect yourself against this bastards. When your bag been snatched, DO NOT force yourself by pulling it. You may just injured yourself as his might will be much powerful than yours. ( remember, remeber, remember, he maybe taking drugs). Just snap your handbag downwards as fast as possible, the theft will lost his balance and fall to the ground. Waste no time, try get others help. Do not act bravely unless you really prepared. If there is no help coming, try run to the place where is more crowded.

I would suggest if there is help coming, give him a powerful kick at his groin (stomp it really hard), that is the part where man is most vulnerable. ( Lolz, the theft really in pain now)

It will be useful to have a pepper spray with you, in case for emergency used. But, just avoid walking alone in dark area or place where make you more vulnerable to this attack. Walk with friends as you may never know what will happen.

Hope the theft who killed the poor lady been arrested, and brought to face juctice. Hope this ill society can be cured.
